  3.      Just received my new Glyphix glyph called Garamet and have
  4. created a sample of regular fonts for your enjoyment.  These are
  5. normal fonts and not changed from the normal type face.
  6.      I am still impressed by the improvement of the font
  7. quality of the latest version of Glyphix.  The company furnishes
  8. on the disk four glyph font styles of Helvette, Optimis, Centrum
  9. and Roman as type faces.  This sample is their just released fifth
  10. glyph named Garamet which is a form of the Garamond type face.
  11.      The quality of the generated fonts is almost as good as that
  12. furnished by known companies in the business and I can't tell the
  13. difference between them.
  14.      With the release of Version 2, SWFTE has also deleted the
  15. copyright notice in the generated fonts as well as added the name
  16. of the created font so that the name will print out on an HPLJ
  17. Series II font printout.
  18.      I talked with the company president, David Goodman on 21
  19. July and he verified that SWFTE does NOT own the generated fonts.
  20. Of course, the program, Glyphix and the base glyphs are copyrighted.
  21. He stated that generated fonts may be placed in the public domain.
  22. Therefore, I've uploaded a small sample of their new Garamet Style
  23. fonts in a file called GARGLX.ARC.  These are straight 12 point
  24. normal, italic and bold type faces.  Included are straight versions
  25. of 18, 24 and 30 point fonts.
  26.      I have created my own version of font naming.  The first 3
  27. characters are the type face, the next two are the point size, the
  28. 6th character is 'R' for regular upright, 'I' for italic, 'B' for
  29. bold and 'S' for any variation from the normal type face.  The
  30. next is for the level of bolding from B0 to B9.  The extension
  31. is either USP - portrait or USL for landscape mode.  As an
  32. example:  GAR12IB0.USP is Garamet, 12 point italic, no bolding, in
  33. portrait mode.
  34.      The beauty of Glyphix is that you can create your own type of
  35. fonts with almost infinite variations of style.  You can vary
  36. your fonts with four (or more type faces), orientation of portrait
  37. or landscape, point size from 4 to 60 points, expansion of width
  38. from 25% to 400%, changing weight of the type from -5 to 9 where 0
  39. is normal, fill patterns of 12 options and slanted type from the
  40. left or to the right up to several percent.  Their ad states up to
  41. 200,000 variations.  I believe it!
